ERC-TRIPS announces with pride that our Second Group Leader, Professor Hyoun Jin Kim, has been reported to be joining Samsung Electronics’ newly established RX (Robotics eXperience) Business Promotion Office. Professor Kim, a globally renowned scholar in intelligent autonomous robotic systems, is reported to be taking on a role that bridges Seoul National University and Samsung Electronics—contributing to the RX initiative while continuing her academic duties at Seoul National University.
The move, noted in recent coverage of Samsung’s organizational launch, highlights the translation of academic leadership into industry impact in robotics and autonomous systems. Samsung’s RX office, created directly under the DX division leadership, is organized to drive mid- to long-term robotics strategy, develop core hardware, AI and software technologies, and support design and product planning across the commercialization pipeline. The RX organization will centralize robotics talent at Samsung’s Seoul R&D Campus, build a data factory at the Gumi site, and establish global research bases in the United States, China and Japan.
Professor Kim, who is recognized internationally as a leading scholar in intelligent autonomous robotic systems and robot control, has led significant research in autonomous mobile robots, unmanned aerial systems, multi-robot cooperation, and safety‑ensuring control methods. Her reported participation in Samsung’s RX effort is a notable example of ERC-TRIPS’ mission to cultivate researchers who contribute to both advanced research and industry innovation.
ERC-TRIPS congratulates Prof. Hyoun Jin Kim on this reported appointment and reaffirms its commitment to training and supporting researchers who bridge academia and industry. We look forward to following the developments in Samsung’s RX initiative and to continuing to prepare talent that advances robotics and autonomous factory technologies.
